AN OVER-LIFE SIZE PLASTER RELIEF OF A NYMPH, AFTER JEAN GOUJON (FRENCH, CIRCA 1510-1565) THE ORIGINAL CIRCA 1550, THE CAST PROBABLY LATER 19TH CENTURY Portrayed standing and draped, carrying a jugApproximately 235cm high, 65cm wide This figural panel is derived from a section of Jean Goujon's 'Fountain of the Innocents', located in Paris' first arrondissement. Casts of this monument are known to have been manufactured by a 'Monsieur Desachy'. A similar panel by Desachy is in the collection of the V&A (REPRO.1882-8) Please note, a stamp for the Aterlier du Moulage of the Louvre has been discovered since the catalogue was published, placing the cast likely in the 20th centuryCondition Report: Please note, a stamp for the Aterlier du Moulage of the Louvre has been discovered since the catalogue was published, placing the cast likely in the 20th centuryCondition: Minor chipping and flaking to the surface overall, particularly to the edges and near the feet where there are also small losses.There are screws drilled through this panel to affix it to the wall.
