Provenance/Additional Info: untouched never used conditionhand appliqued and hand quiltedsolid classic red and green cottoncollected in PAc. 1880sA handsome and rarely seen floral applique from the era when red and green 'show" quilts or 'best quilts" were popularly made. The symmetrical pieced blocks feature thistles or pineapples placed on the diagonal so that their tips appear to connect visually as a diamond grid. The swags form an inverted border which is unusual and appealing.
