ANDRÉ DERAIN
1880 - 1954
SCÈNE MYTHOLOGIQUE

signé Derain (en bas vers la droite)
huile sur papier
28 x 39,5 cm; 11 x 15½ in.

L'authenticité de cette œuvre a été confirmée par le comité Derain.

Condition Report:
Executed on thick cream wove paper, laid down on cardboard. Edges are unevenly cut. There is a milky and uneven varnish preventing UV light from fully penetrating. However examination appears to reveal no evidence of retouching. There a few tiny accretions in places, notably one located 7 cm from lower edge and 11.5 cm from left edge. There are a few scratches associated with paint losses to the dark pigment towards the centre of the upper edge as well as a minor vertical intermittent scratch with associated tiny paint losses. There are a few additional tiny paint losses and a few thin lines of stable craquelure in places, notably to the extreme right seated figure and to the upper left corner. There is some frame rubbing associated with paint losses and glue remnants along the extreme edges. There are a few dots of light discoloration, possibly mold, towards the lower left corner. The sheet is light stained. This work is in overall good condition and could benefit from a light clean.
