CGC certified: G/VG (3.0). Off-white pages. Cover: Vince Fago. No story or art credits. Overstreet says "Rare." Gerber Photo-Journal Guide Scarcity Index rating of 8 ("Rare. Between 11 and 20 in existence. If you find one of these grab it really quickly because you will likely never get another chance"). Overstreet gives a provisional date of "Summer 1947?," but Grand Comics Database says "This comic is most often cited as being published in 1947, however 1946 is probably correct because... the inside cover is an ad for the Picture Stories from the Bible New Testament Edition #1 published by EC in 1946."

Grant Geissman, author of "Tales of Terror: The EC Companion," says of this erstwhile rarity: "At the time TALES OF TERROR came out, the only real source of information on scarcity was the OVERSTREET PRICE GUIDE and the GERBER books. ANIMATED No. 1 actually was scarce — or at least rather hard to find — at one time. In the years since, however, a stash of fairly nice copies were found and then sold on eBay over a period of time.
