The Rug Life is pleased to offer this impressive collection of 12 antique leather-bound volumes of The Works of Lord Byron, published in London by the celebrated publishing house of John Murray in 1833. Nearly two centuries old, these handsome volumes preserve the literary legacy of George Gordon, Lord Byron (1788?1824), one of the most influential and celebrated figures of the Romantic movement. Renowned for his passionate poetry, rebellious spirit, extraordinary life, and lasting influence on European literature, Byron remains among the most fascinating literary personalities of the nineteenth century. This collection is particularly appealing for its period leather bindings, richly ornamented gilt spines, contrasting black title panels, decorative marbled endpapers, and engraved illustrations. The original edition was issued in seventeen volumes. This offering comprises 12 surviving volumes from that 17-volume edition, presenting a substantial portion of Byron's biographical writings, poetry, dramatic works, and literary correspondence. John Murray was Byron's celebrated London publisher, making the publisher's association especially significant to collectors of English Romantic literature. The following twelve volumes are present: 1. Volume II: Life of Lord Byron, 1811?1814. 2. Volume III: Life of Lord Byron, 1814?1817. 3. Volume IV: Life of Lord Byron, 1817?1820. 4. Volume V: Life of Lord Byron, 1820?1822. 5. Volume VII: Hours of Idleness, English Bards and Scotch Reviewers, and occasional pieces. 6. Volume VIII: Childe Harold's Pilgrimage. 7. Volume IX: Occasional Pieces, Hints from Horace, The Curse of Minerva, The Giaour, The Bride of Abydos, and The Corsair. 8. Volume XI: Manfred, The Lament of Tasso, Beppo, Mazeppa, and Ode on Venice. 9. Volume XIII: Heaven and Earth, Sardanapalus, The Two Foscari, and The Deformed Transformed. 10. Volume XV: Letter to the Editor of My Grandmother's Review, observations, and Don Juan. 11. Volume XVI: Don Juan. 12. Volume XVII: Don Juan, Appendix, and Index. Absent are volumes I, VI, X, XII, and XIV. Antique condition consistent with approximately 193 years of age. The bindings display substantial rubbing, scuffing, surface wear, leather deterioration, and wear at the spine ends, corners, and joints. Some volumes exhibit splitting or separation along the joints and areas of exposed underlying material. The pages show age-related toning, scattered foxing, and occasional spotting or marks. Gilt decoration remains visible and contributes significantly to the collection's antique appearance. All 12 volumes are complete with all pages attached and all bindings being tight. Acquired from a central Virginia estate. FREE SHIPPING FOR THIS BOOK SET WITHIN THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
