ANTIQUE AMERICAN "SATURN" WOOD STEREOSCOPE & CARDS

An antique American stereoscope with a red velvet band to protect the viewer's face. Having glass lenses and metal hardware. Wood underneath is stamped with "The "Saturn" trademark scope. James M. Davis RI Washington Place, N.Y. U.S.A. Sole Agent. Patented U.S.A. October 18, 1898, Canada FEBY 1, 1898, France B.S. G.D.G., Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Belgium. Hardware is stamped "July 24, 1883." With folding handle and adjustable card holder rack. Several sets of cards depict various scenarios. Humorous domestic stories include a husband flirting with the maid and his wife finding out and a married couple interrupted in romantic endeavors by aged parents. War scenes include pictures of the battle of Manila, the South African Boer War, and the Army hospital in Manila. Additional cards depict Wellesley, a couple with a baby, and a memorial card commemorating "our martyred president, William McKinley." There are 25 cards total.
