A Beautiful Small Size Floral Pattern Cream And Blue Color Antique Chinese Rug, Country of Origin: China, Circa Date: Late 19th Century – Drawn in a lavish floral style, this incomparable antique Chinese rug depicts a swirling botanical medallion surrounded by complementary spandrels and dramatic chintz chrysanthemum blossoms placed on naturalistic branches. Luxurious floral motifs that incorporate a gradient assortment of indigo hues are contrasted by creamy alabaster colored ground and traditional inner borders, which feature contrasting roundels and reciprocating T-shaped fretwork motifs. Endless knots and decorative shou characters set in roundels punctuate the borders at regular intervals between the powerful conch shell, wheel, lotus blossom and collection of ornaments included in the traditional eight auspicious symbols, which are depicted so beautifully in cultural textiles and art.
