ANTIQUE FRENCH 18K YELLOW GOLD-CASED KEY-WIND POCKET WATCH, eight-jewel cylinder movement, having a white enamel dial with Roman chapter ring, Arabic outer track, and gilt hands, housed in a French 18K yellow gold open-face watch case featuring engine-turned engraved decoration of a hunter holding a dead fox next to hound dog to back of case cover, bow attached to a short gold chain with a watch key. Movement unmarked, French horse head hallmarks for 18K gold fineness utilized between 1838 and 1919 impressed to back cover, cuvette cover, and other places, interior back cover also with "E R" maker's mark, "C [arrow] E" mark, and "1591", exterior cuvette cover marked "CYLINDRE / HUIT RUBIS" and "No. 1591", chain unmarked and tested between 14K and 18K gold fineness. Total weight including non-gold components and watch key: 61.8 grams. Second half 19th century. Approximately size 8s.
