An antique Russian Orthodox icon of Christ Pantocrator. The icon depicts Christ holding the New Testament in his left hand and making the gesture of teaching or of blessing with his right. Tempera and gold on a wooden panel with kovcheg. The image of Christ Pantocrator was one of the first images of Christ developed in the Early Christian Church and remains a central icon of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Dates to the 19th century.
