ANTIQUE SANDWICH POINSETTIA LAMPWORK PAPERWEIGHT

[ translate ]

ANTIQUE SANDWICH POINSETTIA LAMPWORK PAPERWEIGHT, colorless, cut-faceted, deep blue flower with six petals in the foreground and six in the background, central Lutz Rose cane, three leaves behind the petals, short green stem with two leaves, slightly concave polished base. Boston & Sandwich Co. probably Nicholas Lutz. 1870-1887. 2 5/8" DOA.
Very good condition overall with a few scattered light bruises, two areas of minor post-production polishing likely trying to hide a bruise.
Literature: Parallels Hawley - The Art of the Paperweight: Boston & Sandwich and New England Glass Companies, p. 138, fig. 7.63.
Provenance: From the Ellen O'Brien collection, Sarasota, FL.
Catalogue Note: Nicholas Lutz worked for Christian Dorflinger from approximately 1865 to 1870, and then arrived at Sandwich in 1871. While these poinsettia paperweights are generally attributed to either New England Glass Co. or Sandwich Glass Co, it is arguable that these poinsettia paperweights could have been made by either Francois or Nicholas Lutz during there time at Dorflinger. Similar paperweights can be found in "Dorflinger Glassware: The Collection of Ray LaTournous" on pages 76, 81, and 84.
Condition Report: Very good condition overall with a few scattered light bruises, two areas of minor post-production polishing likely trying to hide a bruise.
