ANTIQUE THOMAS MERCER MARINE CHRONOMETER

A beautiful chronometer in brass bound case with viewing lid produced by British watchmaker, Thomas Mercer. Mercer's firms specialized in chronometers, necessary at the time for accurately determining longitude at sea, and saw great success both in securing contracts with the Royal Navy as well as commercial sales. This particular example is in excellent condition with one crack in the glass near the beveled edge. It is fitted in a cherry box with inlet brass carry handles and keyhole escutcheon, original glass viewing panel, and identification plaque. Lock mechanism is missing.
