ANTONIETTA BRANDEIS
Czech
1848 - 1926
CAMPO SAN GIACOMO DALL'ORIO

signed A. Brandeis (lower left)
oil on canvas
31½ by 43⅜ in.
80 by 110.2 cm

Condition Report:
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:

Not examined out of the frame. This work has been lined. The paint layer is stable, but the lining is not properly securing a vertical break in the upper center sky and some other breaks in the left side of the sky.

All of the buildings and figures are in beautiful condition. There are only a few vertical lines of retouching through the center of the crowd in the lower center of the work. However, there are two extensive campaigns of restoration in the sky. One is very broad and interpretative, and includes all of the yellow-green clouds running horizontally through the center and the blue sky in the center of the left side. The second is comprised of many retouches in the lower sky, most of which are visible to the naked eye. Original pigment is visible in the upper right sky, and it can be seen that the whites are whiter and the blues are more ultramarine.

While the condition is uneven overall, the work would respond well to proper restoration. For a full treatment report, please contact the department.
