Starboard Portrait of the SS "Brazos" underway at sea, oil on fiberboard, signed lower right, dated 1909 and with the artist's address "31 Palisade Av West Hoboken". Housed in a gold painted deep cove molded frame, OS: 24" x 36", SS: 17 1/4" x 29 1/4". Cleaned and retouched in sky. The Steamship Freighter "Brazos" was built in 1899 by The Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., Newport, Virginia; owned by the Mallory Line - Clyde-Mallory Line, then New York & Texas SS Co., New York. 4497 grt. 115.7 x 14.6 x 7.9 m material: steel engine: 1 x 3-cyl. triple expansion engine, single shaft, 1 screw power: 518 n.h.p. speed: 15 knots. She was involved in a collision and sank on the 13th January 1942, off Cape Fear.
