Hand-signed color serigraph by the German artist A. R. Penck from 1995 Artist: A. R. Penk (1939-2017) Title: BOBO-JUS Error opens Pandora's box Technique: Silkscreen on handmade paper Size: approx. 76 x 76 cm Year: 1995 Edition: 40 copies Condition: very good inscribed lower left and in pencil lower right by A. R. Penck autographed. (Numbering differs from photo.) Very rare specimen in beautiful condition! ! ! The title of the picture points to Penck's romanticizing view that the development from life close to nature to the modern technological age has opened Pandora's box and brought suffering to mankind. A similar mindset is emerging in the current and increasingly controversial climate debate. AR Penk (1939-2017) In the early 1960s, A. R. Penck developed his own neo-expressionist style of graphic icons and stick figures reminiscent of Asian calligraphy, graffiti and cave paintings. In 1966, the so-called "standard pictures" were created, whose visual language, according to Penck, aims for easy legibility. In the same year he founded the gap artist group together with his artist colleague Steffen Terk and others. At the end of the 1960s, the artist, who lived in the GDR, came under increasing political pressure and his works were confiscated by the state security authorities. The reason for this was, among other things, his action alliance concluded with Jörg Immendorff in 1976, from which numerous works emerged. In 1979, after a burglary in his studio, A. R. Penck was expatriated. After his expatriation in 1980, A. R. Penck first lived in Kerpen near Cologne and later in London. From the 1980s onwards, his paintings, which became larger, more colorful and more gestural, made him a representative of the "New Wild". In addition to his paintings, he created wooden sculptures from 1977 and bronze and marble from 1982, as well as woodcuts and drawings and sound recordings as a jazz musician. Since 1972, A. R. Penck has been represented several times at the documenta in Kassel and in 1984 at the Venice Biennale. Shipping is well packaged so that damage in transit can be avoided and of course fully insured in the amount of the sales price.
