ARBIT BLATAS (LITHUANIAN/AM 1908 - 1999) OIL ON CANVAS H 29" W 36.5" JARDIN DU LUXEMBOURG

Signed lower right "A Blatas". Provenance: The artist. The collection of Dr. Lester and Jane Miller, 880 5th Ave., NYC. By descent to their grand daughter, Aileen Wilson. Dr. and Mrs. Miller were Patron members of the Metropolitan Opera and knew Arbit Blatas through their friendship with Blatas' wife, the legendary mezzo soprano and stage director, Regina Resnik. Dr. and Mrs. Miller acquired several paintings by Blatas over the course of their decades long friendship. There is an interesting article (unrelated to this work) about Arbit Blatas and the art heist comprising 200 of his works that took place in 1994. Condition: In original, untouched condition. The work originally had a larger and more ornate frame which was replaced c.1980 when Ms. Wilson downsized. Frame 32" X 39.5"
