Arik Brauer was an Austrian artist active in painting, theater, music and literature. He received his training in the field of fine arts from 1945 to 1951 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Andersen and Guetersloh. Bauer initially made a living from performing as a singer and thus financed his study trips to Europe and the Near East. It was not until 1960 that painting became his main activity. However, he remained an important representative of the Viennese song until the end, recorded several successful records and made numerous television appearances as a musician, including: together with his daughter Timna Brauer or Heinz Holecek. With his friends from the Art Club, Brauer founded the “Vienna School of Fantastic Realism”. After the “Phantasten” group exhibition in the Austrian Gallery in 1959, their international recognition began. Brauer, who has worked in Vienna and Israel since 1964, received numerous national and international commissions. In 1986 he was appointed to the Vienna Academy, where he worked as a professor until 1997. Characteristic of Brauer's artistic work is the detailed layered painting incorporating current political events into images with a dreamlike and fairytale atmosphere.
