ARNE JACOBSEN (1902–1971)
Ant
Model 3100
Pair of chairs
Pair of tripod chairs with molded plywood shells and black-stained wood veneer, resting on three tapered steel-tube legs.
Model designed in 1952
Produced by Fritz Hansen, Denmark, 1953.
Original label under one of the seats bearing the inscription “FH Danmark – model 3100,” serial number 2262, and date 53.
Shows signs of use, patina, and signs of age, notably oxidation on the legs.

Introduced in the early 1950s, the Ant (Myren) chair is one of the iconic designs of Arne Jacobsen and postwar Scandinavian design. Its continuous molded plywood shell, which is particularly thin at the junction between the seat and the backrest, gives it its characteristic silhouette. The original version of the Model 3100 rested on just three legs, before a four-legged variant was later developed.
