The Luna Magna Red Gold Meteorite is a poetic vision of celestial timekeeping, achieved by a captivating interplay of colour, material and texture. Contrasts define the identity of the watch: warm precious material versus extraterrestrial matter, luminous opal versus dark meteorite and technical sophistication versus visual serenity.
The hours and minutes are indicated on an off-centre subdial made from opal, whose milky, almost lunar appearance gives the watch a soft, mystical look. Its subtle white tone makes this semi-precious stone an elegant counterpoint to the dramatic complexity of the signature complication of the watch. Surrounding this display, the expansive dial is formed from a large disc of blue PVD-treated ferrous meteorite, creating a striking and highly textured backdrop.
The meteorite surface exhibits distinct Widmanstätten patterns, natural crystalline structures that form over millions of years of slow cooling in space, that scatter light across the dial in ever-shifting ways. The star of the show is the stunning moon phase display at the heart of the composition: a 3D sphere made of one hemisphere of Cacholong opal and the other of blue PVD meteorite, echoing the duality of the celestial body itself. The moon is animated by a unique mechanism that turns it gracefully. The opal part and the time display are covered with Super-LumiNova, which reveals a subtle blue-green luminescence only visible after nightfall.
Powering the present timepiece is the calibre A&S1021, entirely developed, manufactured, assembled, and regulated in-house by the Arnold & Son manufacture. The hand-wound movement was designed specifically to fit the architecture of the lunar globe and features an impressive 90-hour power reserve and frequency of 3 Hz. On the back, a second display indicates the age of the moon and allows a very precise lunar adjustment thanks to a clear and intuitive indication system.
