In this work the author Arthur Craco, homage to the writer Charles Baudelaire. French poet who also produced a remarkable work as an essayist and art critic. His most famous work, the book of lyric poetry entitled The Flowers of Evil, expressed the changing nature of beauty in rapidly industrialising Paris in the mid-19th century. Baudelaire's highly original prose poetry style influenced a whole generation of poets, including Paul Verlaine, Arthur Rimbaud and Stéphane Mallarmé, among many others.
Arthur Craco was one of the leading renovators of ceramic art in Belgium, determined to give an important place to the decorative arts. Active as a sculptor and draughtsman, he produced his first ceramics in 1896 in the studio of Omer Coppens, and his work was part of the innovative movements of the late 19th century, such as Art Nouveau. In 1909, he worked in Frédéric Horta's factory, after having received a guardon at the Milan International Exhibition in 1906. He made his first ceramics around 1914, in Stockheim-Fouches and then in Andenne.
