Erik Arvid Backlund (1895—1985) was a Swedish sculptor born in Svärsjö. During his career he created portrait busts and public monuments. Backlund's residence in Svärsjö is preserved and displayed to the public in the summer.

He began his career by carving small wooden figures and was later supported by Anders Zorn and Carl Larsson, which led to a scholarship to study at the Higher Art Industrial School in Stockholm and later at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He was active mainly in Stockholm, creating a variety of church sculptures and portrait busts of famous people. Backlund is represented at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.

Backlund built Arvid Backlundgården near his childhood home during the 1920s, which became a centre for artistic contacts and activities in the area. In 1975, he donated the farm to Falu municipality, which now, together with Svärsjö homestead association, operates and preserves the site for the public.Show more
