“ATTIC CONDITION” COLT 1863 DATED SPECIAL US
CONTRACT MUSKET. Cal. about 60. NSN. All original, complete “as found-attic condition”. Lock is marked forward of hammer “U.S. / COLT’S F. A. MFG Co / HARTFORD CT” & dated on tail “1863”. Matching date is found on top flat of bbl. along w/ the VP eagle head proofs on left side of part oct. breech, standard configuration w/ 39" bbl. & clamping bbl. bands which are adopted by US service in 1863. CONDITION: very good overall metal has an overall smooth brown patina w/ pitting, especially at breech. Markings all discernible including 2 inspector’s cartouches in stock opposite lock. A small stamped “W. DOOLEY” is found on stock several times & breech of bbl. Mechanically fine, bore shows no rifling & measures about .60. (01-18209/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
