Property of the Art Institute of Chicago, Sold to Benefit the Acquisitions Fund
ATTRIBUTED TO NARCISSE VIRGILE DIAZ DE LA PEÑA
French
1808 - 1876
REPOS DE BOHÉMIENNES EN FORÊT (ESQUISSE)

indistinctly signed n. diaz (lower left)
oil on panel
panel: 18 by 14½ in.; 45.7 by 36.8 cm
framed: 30⅜ by 26⅜ in.; 77.2 by 67 cm

Condition Report:
Oil on stable panel, not examined out of the frame. The surface is in generally good condition, aside from extremely faint craquelure visible in the sky and on the figure's faces. Under UV light, the surface is obscured by an uneven green fluorescing varnish, which makes the surface difficult to read, though there is a broad area of brushy fluorescence at lower left.

Offered in an ornate gold frame and ready to hang in its current state.

Provenance:
George F. Harding, Jr., Chicago

George F. Harding Museum, Chicago (bequeathed from the above, 1939)

Acquired from the above, 1982
