ATTRIBUTED TO PIETER COECKE VAN AELST THE ELDER

RECTO: CROWDS IN SUPPLICATION BEFORE A MILITARY LEADER (CAESAR?)
VERSO: CHRIST CARRYING THE CROSS

Pen and brown ink and brown and gray wash, over traces of black chalk (recto and verso)
193 by 285 mm; 7½ by 11¼ in

Condition Report:
Window mounted on a modern paper backing which has subsequently been hinged to a modern cream mount. There is some toning to the sheet and some areas of foxing and minor surface dirt. There are three small repaired holes to the right half of the sheet and two further pin prick holes to the upper left corner. The combination of media remains relatively fresh throughout, with the image strong. Sold unframed.
