ATTRIBUTED TO PLÁCIDO ZULOAGA, TOLEDO, SPANISH, 1834 - 1910, A FINE LATE 19TH CENTURY BRONZE, STEEL AND GOLD DAMASCENED CASKET
Rectangular form, decorated throughout with panels of scrolling foliage and Arabesque, surmounted by an urn finial flanked by acanthus leaves with three quarter baluster pilasters to angles and rope twist border to plinth base, raised on four paw feet, the hinged top opening to reveal a silk lined interior.

N.B. Plácido Zuloaga is regarded as one of the greatest masters of damascening, and was viewed in his day as "a second Benvenuto Cellini." He was from a family of Spanish Royal Armourers and created a wealth of decorative arts using the technique of inlaying metals into layers of other metals, using gold, silver and steel. His work is well regarded for its quality, high design and detail, and include a centre table owned by the Royal Collection and a mirror in the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, both Circa 1880.
