ATTRIBUTED TO RUDOLF HELTZEL: A PAIR OF TOURMALINE AND DIAMOND PENDENT EARRINGS Set throughout with vari-cut pink tourmalines, accented with brilliant-cut diamonds, mounted in 18K gold, length 3.9cm
By family repute, this pair of earrings was purchased at the same time as the pendant necklace (lot 76).
Rudolf Heltzel began his training in his native Berlin in 1956, entering the Master School for Artistic Crafts at the age of 16 in recognition of his outstanding talent. He later left Germany for Ireland, settling in Kilkenny, where he established his own family-run workshop.
Invited by the Irish Export Board, Heltzel went on to organise studio workshops devoted to training in gold- and silversmithing techniques. Across a career spanning six decades, he has combined traditional, hand-carved methods of production with innovations in design technology, developing a distinctly multi-disciplinary approach.
At the heart of Heltzel's work is a strong and distinctive design process, in which gemstones and metal are brought together to create pieces with an almost abstract, sculptural character. Yet, his jewellery, by its nature, remains rooted in physicality, balancing the sculptural with the functional to complement its wearer. Whatever the original inspiration, Heltzel's jewellery retains an unmistakable identity.
Since establishing his career in Ireland, Heltzel has also placed considerable importance on sharing his knowledge and experience. His long-standing position within the Irish craft market has allowed him to establish training opportunities for jewellery makers dedicated to keeping ancient traditional skills alive.

Adam’s Auctioneers does not guarantee the standard of gold or platinum unless an item bears an official hallmark. In certain instances, metal content may be tested using a Thermo Scientific Nitron Handheld XRF Analyser. This device examines metal to a depth of approximately 8 microns only, and any results obtained through electronic testing must be regarded as indicative rather than definitive, as inaccuracies may occur.
Where catalogue descriptions or condition reports refer to marks denoting metal fineness, or include an opinion as to metal content, such information is provided for guidance only. All statements contained within the catalogue represent expressions of opinion. Prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves as to all such matters prior to bidding.
