Lot Essay
Since the introduction of the first Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph in 1993, Audemars Piguet has continuously expanded the collection through an extraordinary variety of materials, dimensions and complications. Conceived as a larger and more assertive interpretation of the Royal Oak, the original 42 mm. Offshore responded perfectly to the growing appetite for more substantial sports watches. Audemars Piguet subsequently introduced smaller 37 mm. versions, offering the unmistakable Offshore aesthetic in more compact proportions.
The present Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph is an especially luxurious interpretation, housed in an 18k pink gold case and fitted with a bezel set with 32 brilliant-cut diamonds. The gem-setting extends considerably beyond the bezel, with diamonds lavishly adorning the lugs and caseband, and even extending to the deployant clasp, creating a spectacular jewelry execution of the celebrated sports chronograph.
Despite its opulent appearance, the watch retains the robust and sporting character of the Royal Oak Offshore through the contrasting use of rubber on the chronograph pushers, crown and bezel elements. The combination of warm pink gold, brilliant diamonds and technical rubber creates a striking contrast, perfectly illustrating Audemars Piguet's ability to unite high jewelry craftsmanship with the bold sporting identity of the Royal Oak Offshore.
