AUSTRALIAN WWII "1ST BATTALION RANGER" KNIFE &
USGI MARKED SHEATH. Overall: 14". Unmarked Bowie 9" blade. Brass knuckle guard & hilt. Leather sheath with carved "Louie Kun / US NAVY"; online obituary research appears to indicate a Louis "Louie" Kun (passed 2016) of Barbeton, Ohio was a US Navy Pacific Theater Veteran in WWII. This style knife was previously named the 1st Battalion Ranger model but recently it has been determined that these knives originated in Australia. The 1st Ranger Battalion fought in North Africa, Sicily & Italy, so a Ranger connection to these model knives is ruled out. It is possible however that these knives saw service against the Japanese in the PTO. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: zippered case & consignor notes. CONDITION: knife has a pleasing patina appearance with sm. knicks in edge & verdigris on brass handle. Sheath in fair condition with large hole near tip & cracks. (02-26413/MD). NON-GUN. $500-800.
