AUSTRIAN NAVAL OFFICERS LION HEAD SWORD BY FIRMIN.

[ translate ]

Like the British pattern 1827 it was made by the Firmin company likely as a special order. The sword itself measures about 37" overall with a etched 29 1/2" blade marked " P & S FIRMIN 153 Strand & 13 Conduit St. London ". The decorative etching includes foliate and nautical motifs along with Austrian eagles. Gilded brass semi-basket hilt with a large anchor (no crown) in oval on the underside of the guard. a very well articulated lion head pommel top a wire wrapped white sharkskin grip. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard marked at the throat " P & S FIRMIN 153 Strand & 13 Conduit St. London ". CONDITION: blade does show some staining and the tip is a touch rounded. The hilt generally shows light wear with well over half the gilded finish remaining. The scabbard has heavy wear with approximately 3" missing above the drag. All mounts are present. (02-27593/BF). $600-800.
