AUX ARMES DE LA FAMILLE DE MICHELANGELO DI LODOVICO BUONARROTI SIMONI (1475 1564) DIT MICHEL ANGE
IMPORTANT CREDENTIAL CREATION WITH CUT WOODEN WOODEN HOUSES Italy, Florence, late 16th century
Walnut, wrought iron and brass
H. 179 cm, W. 158 cm, D. 58 cm
Bibliography
A. Pedrini, Italian Furniture and Interiors and Decorations of the 15th and 16th centuries, London, 1949.
R. Ciabani, Le Famiglie di Firenze, Vol. 2, Ed. Bonechi
This Renaissance two-body credenza, made of partially gilded walnut wood, has a structure of solid proportions, worthy of the architecture of Tuscan palaces. The upper part of the entablature is decorated with polychrome gilded cartouches harmoniously framed by a groove and overhung with mouldings with egg and dentil friezes. In the centre is the coat of arms of the Buonarroti family. With its cut-sided sides, it is undoubtedly a piece of display furniture to offer the most beautiful pieces of goldsmith's work to the eye.
Slightly recessed, the upper body opens with two leaves pierced with ironwork, creating beautiful volutes. The sides with a moulded frame are framed by pilasters with grooves excavated and solid in their base. The top of the cabinet is dressed in an antique green velvet. The belt with a single drawer is adorned with a frieze of fleurons. The molded gilded brass knobs are in keeping with the stylistic design of the ensemble. The two leaves of the lower body are adorned with a radiating oval oval motif, framed with cut-out leather motifs. The pilasters follow the line of the upper body affirming a ternary rhythm to the whole. A striated gilded moulding crowns the base of the piece of furniture resting on its trapezoidal legs.
