Father Manuel de Azevedo (1713-1796), a renowned priest and writer, was born in Coimbra, joined the Society of Jesus in 1723 and in 1733 went to Rome, where he gained the trust of Benedict XIV, who entrusted him with several important works literary works and made him a member of the Liturgical Academy, having appointed him as a consultant to the Sacred Congregation of Rites. He previously held the Grammar chair at the Santo Antão school in Lisbon in Portugal, where he composed a drama in Latin according to the taste of the time. He governed Rhetoric at the Évora College. He edited several works at his own expense, including those of Benedict XIV. He died in Palencia, without having fulfilled all his literary goals. This work of his is one of the most notable works on Saint Anthony, having been published for the first time in Venice, 1788, of which this is the second edition, with the addition of three prints.
