VLADIMIR VASILIEVICH LEBEDEV (1891, PETERSBURG -1967, LENINGRAD).
People's Artist of the RSFSR, Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts. Schedule. One of the founders of the domestic book illustration. He visited the workshop of F.A. Roubaud (1910–1914), as well as M.D. School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture Bernstein and L.V. Sherwood. He studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1912-1914).
He painted for the magazines "Satyricon" and "New Satyricon" (1911-1917).
He was one of the organizers of the campaign “WINDOWS GROWTH” in Leningrad (1920–1921).
Professor of the Petrograd State Agricultural Museum (1918-1921).
Adjacent to the avant-garde "Association of new trends in art" (1922-1923), chaired by V.E. Tatlin; experienced the great influence of the latter. He was later a member of the Four Arts Society. Created a special type of book illustration, combining the traditions of book graphics of the World of Art and futurists. In the 1920s created the satirical series "NEP", "New Life", "Love of the punks." The result of everyday work with nature was a series of brilliant drawings of "Acrobats", "Ballerinas", "Guitarists" and numerous sketches of nude models. His drawings for "Elephant" by R. Kipling, the works of S.Ya. Marshak's “Yesterday and Today,” “Ice Cream,” “About the Silly Mouse,” “Circus” (all - 1925), “Luggage” (1926), “How a Planer Made a Planer” ushered in a new era in a children's picture book. V.V. Lebedev headed the art edition of the department of children's and youth literature of the State Publishing House, turning it into a center for creating highly artistic books for children (1924-1933).
The works of V.V. Lebedev stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and other museums.
