Abu al-‘Abbas Ahmad al-Buni (d. 1225 AD or 1232-33 AD): A treatise on the magical properties of names and letters, probably Egypt, 15th-16th century, 28ff., Arabic manuscript on paper, including prayers for each hour of the days of the week, with numerous magic squares and tables, the opening folio bears a title that was crossed over and is erroneous: Risala lawami’ al-asrar fi matal’i al-anwar fi al-du’a by Muhammad al-Bakri, incomplete at end, in red modern binding with floral medallion, folio 27 x 17.5cm. Little is known of the life of Abu al-‘Abbas al-Buni except that he lived in Egypt and died in the second quarter of the 13th century AD. He is the author of many works, including Shams al-ma’arif, a popular treatise on the science of letters, talismans and magic squares
