Achaemenid Persian Stone Dish w/ Circular Incisions

Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 600 BCE. A remarkable hand-carved stone dish presenting a discoid foot and a wide, circular rim over a shallow basin. Boasting a hue of light sage, this ancient vessel has been intricately incised with dozens of target-motifs, displaying the largest in the center of the basin. Two bands of circular patterns adorn the interior of the vessel, while another ring of such motifs envelops the rim. The exterior of the dish features an additional register of target designs. Size: 2.375" in diameter (6 cm)

Provenance: private Southern California collection, USA, bestowed in 2006; ex-J. Malter collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired before 2006
