HENRY IRVING English Stage Actor (1838-1905) and MARION DAVIES American Actress (1897-1961).
Lot includes Two Signed Vintage Photographs, both Extremely Fine:
1. Sir Henry Irving, 3.25" x 5", housed in an Ornate Carved Period Wooden Frame to 7.75" x 9.75". Signed "Henry Irving", note on back of frame reads, "Sir Henry Irving / Signed Lyceum Theatre / Sheffield Oct 7th 1905. / Died Theatre Bradford October 13th 1905". Thomas Anstey Guthrie wrote of his death in his "Long Retrospect", "on October 13, 1905, Henry Irving, when appearing as Becket at the Bradford Theatre, was seized with syncope just after uttering Becket's dying words 'Into thy hands, O Lord, into thy hands', and though he lived for an hour or so longer he never spoke again."
2. Marion Davies, Circular Photograph 7.5" x 7.5" diameter, possibly removed from a custom frame, Signed, "Sincerely Marion Davies". She was the more renowned for her 34 year relationship with William Randolph Hearst than her acting and performance career. (2 items).
