Born in London in 1961, the photographer Adam Fuss was raised in rural England, which was a location that heavily influenced his artwork. His earliest experiments in photography were rooted in traditional practices, such as the daguerreotype, and he eventually developed a working method that led to his abandonment of the camera altogether.

"Untitled" was created in 1992 and is a unique photogram from a series of 50 works depicting sunflowers. To produce each work, Fuss placed a flower directly on the surface of light-sensitive Cibachrome paper before then exposing it to light. Fuss's camera-less technique harkens back to the work of Modernist photographers - such as Man Ray, Christian Schad, and L.szlU Moholy-Nagy - who each produced a body of work using related techniques. As such, each photogram in Fuss's series of sunflower images is unique.

Adam Fuss is represented by Cheim & Read of New York City and Fraenkel Gallery in San Francisco. Fuss's work is held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Condition Report: Overall good condition. Very minor dust accumulation. Light staining showing mostly along the outermost edges. Edge wear with attendant pinhead-sized areas of lifting of the colored surface of the photogram along the extreme outer edges, primarily along the left edge. Mounted to Plexiglas.Framed under glass: 43.625" H x 33.625" H x 0.875" D Condition reports are offered as a courtesy and are typically published in Moran's catalogue or can be made available upon request. The absence of a condition report does not imply that an item is free from defects or restoration, nor does a reference to particular defects imply the absence of others. Buyers are responsible for determining to their own satisfaction the true nature and condition of any lot prior to bidding. Though buyers are not legally required to inspect lots prior to purchase, failure to do so may constitute a waiver of complaint that an item was not delivered in a condition equal to the existent condition at the auction.
