\Artist: Adolfo Belimbau (1845-1945)
Technique: Oil on board\Signature: Hand signed\Dimensions: 59_40_1_cm
Oil on wood depicting "Paesaggio orientalista" by Adolfo Belimbau. 43. 5 x 24 cm. Signed on bottom left. On the back: unfinished pencil and oil painting "La consegna della lettera". Origin: Galleria Il Magnifico, Florence. Panel size without frame: 43. 5 x 24 cm. ADOLFO BELIMBAU (Cairo 1845 - Florence 1945) Born in Egypt to a Tuscan family of Jewish origins, he began to take an interest in painting under the guidance of the Livorno painter Felice Provenzal. The parents, however, were not inclined to the talent of their son, and would prefer to see him work as a seller of oriental carpets (the job carried out by his father) . Belimbau then decided to devote half of his time to family work and the other half to his passion for painting: in 1871, together with his friend Eugenio Cecconi, who made him enter the Macchiaioli movement, he embarked on a trip to Tunisia that would give both artists new ideas for their subsequent works. In 1886 he gave his contribution to the organization of the Exhibition of Fine Arts in Livorno while the following year, at the Venice Film Festival, he exhibited the works ‘Aisela’ and ‘Prima del Minuetto’, gaining fairly good success and appreciation from the public (‘Prima del Minuetto’ will be published later also in a German newspaper) . He continued to paint until old age, dying in 1938, at the age of 93. Before his death he founded the Fondazione Livornese di studi ebraici Adolfo Belimbau. The frame is offered as a gift, so we decline all responsibility for any damage that may occur during transport.
