Adorable Chancay Pottery Hairless Dog

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A Peruvian hairless dog of a rare form! Lying in a prone position with his front paws stretched out, his rear paws tucked beneath its body, his head raised, and black-on-white pigmentation embellishing the form of this endearing puppy. Our canine friend is depicted with characteristic bat-like ears, wrinkled skin, and a curled tail. His visage presents open eyes surrounded by incised wrinkles, flared nostrils, and an open mouth revealing a full set of teeth. His spine if pronounced with radiating wrinkle or perhaps those are protruding ribs. What's more, the sculptor made the sex of this pup perfectly clear, as his genitals are delineated as well. Condition Report: Normal surface wear commensurate with age. Small loss to tips of ears. Repairs to the back, perhaps patched probe holes. Overall the form is still strong with wonderful details.
