Property from a family collection
Dutch School, Late 15th Century
Adoration of the Magi

oil on panel
panel: 15 ⅞ by 10 in.; 40.3 by 25.4 cm.
framed: 23¼ by 18 in.; 59.1 by 45.7 cm.

Condition Report:
The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

This small panel is enclosed in its frame, and so the reverse of the panel has not been inspected at this time. However, the panel is flat and seems to be made out of a single piece of wood. Although the work is probably slightly dirty with a yellowed varnish, it is in excellent condition and certainly looks well in its current state. There are a few isolated retouches down the left and right edges and in the lower left corner, which are visible under ultraviolet light. A few spots of retouching can be seen in the red leggings of the figure in the lower left. There are no noticeable restorations within the main figure group. No restorations can be seen, either under ultraviolet light or with the naked eye, above the figure in the manger and in the distance. If the work is cleaned, which is not necessarily recommended, it is possible but not likely that other restorations would be revealed. Overall, the work is in excellent condition.
