This work is registered in the archives of the RKD in The Hague under the number 196893. It is a fine example of Adriaen Pietersz. van de Vennes grisaille paintings, which he mainly carried out in his later years. This work may be identical to a piece of the same subject mentioned by A. Bredius in 1918 (cf. Künstlerinventare, vol. II, p. 392), which was auctioned in Amsterdam in 1693.
