Adriaen de Grijef or de Gryef (Leiden, The Netherlands, 1657 - Brussels, 1715) was a Flemish Baroque painter and dealer specializing in the painting of still lifes and hunting scenes. Son and disciple of Jacques / a Dutch painter of vanitas and still lifes married in 1649 to a daughter of Jan van Goyen, he was baptized in Leiden on the 6th of December of 1657. He spent his life between Ghent, in whose guild of St. Luke he is registered as an art dealer in 1687 and Antwerp the city in where he married in 1689 and where he is registered in the painters' guild in 1700, Leiden and Brussels where he resided from 1690 to 1694 and from 1700 until his death, in 1715, according to Thieme-Becker's Lexicon, or after 1722, In his still lifes, influenced by Jan Fyt and Frans Snyders, his paintings, usually of small size, focus on the painting of dogs in a restless attitude and collected hunting pieces among various fruits and located outdoors, hanging from trees or shrubs in landscapes illuminated by a twilight light.
