[ translate ]

\Artist: Adriaen van Ostade (1610-1685)
Technique: Etching\Signature: Plate signed\Dimensions: 140_130_1_mm
Van Ostade, probably the most sought after 17th Century Dutch etcher after Rembrandt. Two wandering musicians, a flute player and a boy drummer, playing to an audience of three adults outside a house, four children gathered in the background. Etching signed with the artist's name, 'Av. Ostade', bottom left. Reference: Hollstein / Dutch and Flemish etchings, engravings and woodcuts c. 1450-1700 (38. VI) Bartsch / Le Peintre graveur (I. 371. 38) Adriaen Van Ostade was born in Haarlem in Holland in 1610 and died there in 1685. His etchings are dated between 1647 and 1671. He was more prolific as a painter than an etcher, leaving us only 50 etchings. Nevertheless he is probably the most sought after 17th Century Dutch etcher after Rembrandt. This is a good impression with nice plate tone of the 18th century and has been very well kept. Remains of two hinges on top of the backside. In absolute perfect condition. It is on laid paper with no visible watermark and has good margins around the plate border. (102 x 87 mm) Important and original print by Van Ostade.
