Adriaen van Stalbemt - Figures in a Landscape with a Church
Adriaen van Stalbemt
Figures in a Landscape with a Church
Oil on panel. 47.5 x 63 cm.
Adriaen van Stalbemt was accepted as a master by the Guild of Saint Luke in his home town of Antwerp in 1610. He remained there for the rest of his career. His oeuvre was strongly influenced by the Flemish tradition of landscape painting, especially the work of Jan Brueghel the Elder. This landscape, which Klaus Ertz dates to around 1630, is characterised by a low horizon which vastly increases the realism of the scene.
