Adrianus Eversen - Dutch Canal Scene with Figures and a Barge
Adrianus Eversen
Dutch Canal Scene with Figures and a Barge
Oil on panel. 30.5 x 41 cm.
Monogrammed and dated lower left: AE55.
Eversen used the churches, patrician homes, town halls and the civic buildings he saw on his travels as motifs. He enlivened his views with scenes from the everyday life of the citizens living in these towns and thus bore witness to their customs and traditions. His city views, some of which are authentically reproduced, are works which, from today's perspective, also represent a contemporary document of the return to the cityscape as a motif in the mid-19th century.
Provenance
For several generations in private collection, Paris. - Private ownership, Belgium.
