Advertising Poster Creative Playthings Fredun Shapur
Original vintage advertising poster for the Creative Playthings toy shop in Manhattan, New York, designed by South African toy maker and illustrator Fredun Shapur (b. 1929). This is one of a series of ten posters created by Shapur, illustrating the different forms of play – dramatic, active, social etc – and the products available in the shop. In addition to going on sale at Creative Playthings, the poster designs were also used for wrapping paper and in the company catalogue. Shapur’s signature style – bold blocks of colour, androgynous faces, graphic simplified shapes – is evident in this design, which shows two children standing side by side, one playing a clarinet or recorder whilst the other is wearing a smiling donkey mask. The poster has a green background. Very good condition, minor creasing, small tears. Country of issue: USA, designer: Fredun Shapur, size (cm): 97x64, year of printing: 1971.
