Original vintage alcohol drink advertising poster for Scotch Ale issued by Wm Younger & Co Ltd Brewers in Edinburgh featuring a great cartoon by George E. Studdy (George Ernest Studdy; 1878-1948) of a man in a chequered suit, yellow waistcoat, white hat, boots and lucky horseshoe tie pin leaning against the rope in front of a race course and blowing the froth off a glass of Scotch Ale while turning out his pockets and dropping a button, key and corkscrew to the ground next to a riding whip and bottle of Scotch Ale in front of a jockey crying on the back of a seated horse as the horse race continues on the track behind him, the poem below reading: When you’ve lost hundreds on a race, And ruin stares you in the face, Do nothing desp’rate in a hurry, But drink Scotch Ale and do not worry. The William Younger & Company Brewery was founded in Edinburgh in 1778 in the grounds of Holyrood Abbey by Archibald Campbell Younger; the company was registered in 1887 and was producing a quarter of all Scotland's beers by the 1900s; in 1986 the Holyrood Brewery complex closed (now the Scottish Parliament building), and in 2017 the brand was sold to Marston's Brewery. Scotch Ale is a type of beer that refers to a strong pale ale produced in Edinburgh Scotland. Fair condition, paper browned, staining on margins, restored paper loss on margin.
