NAD identity card case, early 20th century, African; note inside states "With Best Wishes to Tom, 1983 Birthday. This is an old identity card carrier which all Africans had to wear around their necks circa Early 1900 NAD means "Native Area District." Likely to be from British Imperial Nigeria, which attempted different strategies at segregation and "Native Authority" in the first half of the 20th century.
Dimensions are: 2 3/4 in (6.9 cm) long X 1 3/4 in (4.4 cm) wide without loop, loop is 13 in (33 cm) long when doubled. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: Metal darkened with age.
