Afshar
late 19th century, 183 x 123 cm, South Persia, Aqta'
Two large red hexagons with a mirror-image floral interior design of palmettes and botehs lie on the central axis of the dark blue field. A hexagon truncated by the horizontal border is seen at the lower end of the field. The six cruciforms composed of four palmettes aligned towards a central point that are placed along the sides are all overlaid by the border. This means that the entire field design is an endless repeat. The angular style of drawing used in the designs and the palette are typical features of Afshar rugs from the Aqta' region situated south west of Kerman.
Condition
New overcasting along the left side. Otherwise in good condition.
