After Christopher Fratin (French, 1801-1864)
After Christopher Fratin (French, 1801-1864), a patinated bronze animalier group of a hare and two leverets, naturalistically modelled, stamped FRATIN to the rectangular section base, 17cm high, 11cm wide
Provenance: Shefford Woodlands House, Berkshire
The proceeds of sale from this collection will be donated to a number of local charities.
Condition Report:
The bronze has a relatively matte dark brown patina, with lighter brown to the exposed extremities, such as the fur on the back. There are four or five bright verdigris patches to the right side of the standing hare, including to the belly and neck. The underside of the base has been smoothed and gilt where the animals have been attached to the likely separately cast base. One of these areas is coarser and a brighter copper hue, possibly indicating a small damage, or otherwise a result of the manufacturing process. No significant areas of damage have been detected, and the bronze is in perfectly presentable condition overall.
