After Giambologna, (Flemish working in Italy, 1527 – 1608), a bronze model of a seated bagpiper
After Giambologna, (Flemish working in Italy, 1527 - 1608), a bronze model of a seated bagpiper, probably Florentine, early 17th century, portrayed in period attire and holding the pipe in both hands, his legs crossed; on a later, square section dove grey marble base
The bronze 7.5cm high, the height overall, 10.5cm
COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:
An almost identical example is held at the Berlin-Dahlem Staatliche Museen, and is included in W. Bode, The Italian Bronze Statuettes of the Renaissance, M.A.S. de Reinis, New York, 1980, Plate CCV
Condition Report: The lot is in perfectly reasonable order overall with just the usual very minor scuffs and knocks consistent with age.
The patina is a rich, dark brown with quite shiny copper hues showing at the exposed extremities -suggesting of course a relatively high copper content in the bronze.
The base is possible later be this is indefinite.
