Date: 18th century
Description: Inscribed lower left "W. Hogarth inv. Pinx.", inscribed lower right "R.D.U.sc.". Depiction after the eleventh sheet from the series "Diligence and Sloth" by the British painter and engraver William HOGARTH from 1747, named "The Idle 'Prentice executed at Tyburn". On the left edge of the picture a procession of soldiers on foot and horseback can be seen accompanying a wooden cart. On it sits a preacher with a book, called "Wesley", next to Thomas Idle, protagonist of the series, who is here leaning against his own coffin. Numerous onlookers have gathered in the large square to watch the marvellous spectacle.
